Lime Chrysalis'

Page 9 & 10 of the summer sketchbook. Gosh this is slow work. Watercolour base with pen over the top to pick out the detail, some of which is made to run and stain with water. This shows the start of a butterfly's life, waiting to break free of the chrysalis, their home, which they leave behind to flake away as shown by the final empty shell.

journey sketchbook

pages from my summer sketchbook portraying butterfly chrysalis using different techniques. Top two - stencil and the result using watercolour, resist and ink pen. Below - biro study. Bottom - acrylic study. The start of a butterfly's life/journey (not including caterpillar stage).

For some reason I can't rotate this, but here's a card I made for my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary. It's done using watercolour and resist, then the butterfly wings are cut out to make them stand out, an idea I've continued from some of my project work below.

This is the first two pages of my new project for my art foundation course (which starts in September). The title it 'journey'. Top photo - watercolour. Bottom two - acrylic paint, the butterfly shapes then carefully cut out to make their wings stand up.

Flying

A trip to the butterfly farm in stratford to kick start my new summer project called 'journey'.  I'm leaving it quite open and simple, starting with 'flying' - a mode of transport, so that I have lots of options later on.

greetings cards

I've had 50 of these printed with photos of my landscape paintings of my local area on, just to see how well they sold, and so far they've done really well! Thinking of making a re-run. £2 each. There are actually 7 different designs, but the others have all gone :)

Spinning in the lavender field

A painting I did this afternoon (acrylic on canvas) whilst listening to The Hobbit on TAPE, so incredibly old school, but I'm ill and it made everything better.  This is done from a photo from the 'girl in the lavender field' set I posted a while back.  I think I might do a set once I get all the photos printed off, but we'll see how it goes.
